  About Us

Calvary English Chapel (CEC) held its first service in 1992. It was planted to develop an English Ministry to minister to college age and young adults that attended Calvary Presbyterian Church (CPC). As the ministry began to grow, CEC became more and more of an autonomous ministry within CPC.

Currently, CEC is operating under the interdependence model (two churches under one roof). In other words, CEC & CPC are separate churches but work together in partnership sharing its resources: the building and Christian education. CEC is currently affiliated with the Korean American Presbyterian Church (KAPC) denomination.

CEC continues to re-evaluate the future vision by developing the structure and spiritual foundation of the church. We are a fairly young church and are still fine tuning the vision and direction of the church through prayer. Our desire is to be a place where God is honored and His people find joy.

The CEC Deacon Board governs the body of CEC. The ordained deacons are lay leaders that are elected by members of CEC. As spiritual leaders, not only do they participate in the decision making process, but also oversee different CEC committees.

The Deacon board appoints committee heads to lead each committee. There are eight committees this year: Administration, Fellowship, Finance, Member's Care, Mission, Outreach, Publication and Worship. CEC also has small group leaders who nurture and lead small group studies. The small group leaders are appointed by the Deacon Board as well.

CEC encourages all members to get involved. We believe that all of God's people have talents to serve the church and one another for the purpose of building up the body.

We pray that by God's grace, we'll continue to develop a community that will honor God and meet the spiritual and social needs of the Chicago area.
